“We must
pay salaries to our employees, we have monthly expenses, and we have to pay the rent as well.If the club does not resume working soon we will face financial problems. We met the Interior Minister and he told us that he had not thought about it before, but he will start thinking about this issue,” Tato Getia stated after the meeting with Interior Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia held at Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As the representative of the popular night club says, the positions of Ministry of Internal Affairs about the special operation conducted in Bassiani and Café Gallery on May 12 are different from their opinions.

“Our opinions differ. The Ministry of Internal Affairs thinks that they had enough reasons to conduct the special operation in night clubs, while we think on the contrary.

In my opinion, there were other ways and solutions to avoid such development of events. I think that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should have conducted the investigative activities less demonstratively. I am not the lawyer and I do not speak in legal language. I speak simply, as the citizen and in my opinion; it was possible to conduct the special operation in a more humane way.

The investigation is still underway and we have not been notified the exact date when the club will be able to resume working, but it is not matter of months, but days,” elaborated one of the founders of Bassiani night club Tato Getia.

As a reminder, police raided Georgia's most popular night clubs Bassiani and Cafe Gallery on May 12. The above-mentioned clubs are sealed after the special operations. As the representatives of Ministry of Internal Affairs say, the reason behind the special operation was to detain drug dealers who supposed to be at the venues.

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia said that police decided to enter night clubs after increased cases of intoxication by drugs and confirmation of cases of illegal drug trade in the clubs.

On May 14, pre-trial detention was ordered for eight people detained at Tbilisi clubs for illegal drug trade. Both clubs are extremely popular dance venues in Tbilisi that have contributed to developing Georgian clubbing scene.
