Café Gallery in Tbilisi opens after being sealed for 10 days by police
Café Gallery night club has officially opened today. The representatives of criminal police finished working on both floors of the night club and unlocked the seal from Café Gallery doors. Café Gallery night club will resume functioning from today, as the law enforcers have already given relevant permission to the owners of the club.

According to the lawyer of Café Gallery, Khatuna Khurtsilava, the items in the club are not damaged.. As the lawyer of Café Gallery stated, law enforcers
could not find any evidence related to the owners of the club.

Additionally, the director of Café Gallery, Giorgi Kolbaia, was questioned at prosecutor's office of Georgia today.

As a reminder, special operation was carried out by police at Georgia's most popular night clubs Bassiani and Cafe Gallery on May 12. The above-mentioned clubs have been sealed since the special operations. As the representatives of Ministry of Internal Affairs say, the reason behind the special raid was to detain drug traders who have been tracked at the venues.

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia said that police decided to enter night clubs after increased cases of intoxication by drugs and confirmation of cases of illegal drug trade in the clubs.

On May 14, pre-trial detention was ordered for eight people detained at Tbilisi clubs for illegal drug trade, with the head of Café Gallery security service among them. Both Bassiani and Café Gallery night clubs are extremely popular dance venues in Tbilisi that have contributed to developing Georgian clubbing scene.

Another popular night club of Tbilisi, Bassiani, still remains closed. The exact date when the club will resume functioning is still unknown. Meanwhile owners of Bassiani club complain about the financial loss of venue, since the place has been locked since May 12.

The representatives of Bassiani underground club have recently published the statement through social media.

According to the statement, if the club is not be opened till 1st of June, they might have to close it due to the financial damage and loss, although the club’s door has always been open for the people who fight for equality and freedom.

The representatives of Bassiani  club have recently published the statement addressing their supporters:

“Terrorized and sealed Bassiani is political hostage today. Along with the other clubs, we became the main target of the system. We have been blackmailed and attacked for over a month already. They blame us for the facts of intoxication and tragic death of people. On the contrary, we were the first who sent alarming signal to the society."

The club calls on people to gather on May 27 at Europe Square where the idea of establishing Bassiani was born.

"May 27 is  symbolic date, as up to 70 German night clubs will protest the problems existing in their country through massive raves and demonstrations. Join us, the Tbilisi clubbing scene we were so proud of is in danger. We are gathering at the place where our idea has was born – Europe Square, to return BASSIANI / HOROOM. Today our fight means fight for social changes! Open the closed door, let us return to our home! ,“ reads the statement released by Bassiani.
