The salary of subway operators is higher than the salaries of patrol police employees, ambulance brigade staff, rescuers and firefighters, - Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at the briefing on Monday.

“The salary of subway operators - GEL 1400-1800, is higher than the salaries of teachers, ambulance doctors, patrol officers, firefighter-rescuers and other staff of the Metro. I think the population has the right to have information about the negotiation process - so called defendants of their labor rights demanded their salaries to be increased by 45% at the expense of increased fare for metro. This is categorically unacceptable for us,” Kakha Kaladze said.

The Mayor apologized to Tbilisi population for the discomfort created due to the strike.
