Creating “Qvevri” through 3D printed images
Traditionally, it takes months to make a Qvevri, traditional Georgian wine vessel. Qvevri wine jars have a history of 8000 years. However it is thought that the old-fashioned methods of making Qvevri may contribute to a lower quality product.

Luckily, a new project QVEVRI.XYZ has is under way to remedy this.

The authors of the project (collaborating with a ceramic specialist in the Netherlands)have produced a way to create the vessels using 3D technology. By using this technology and the help
of the GITA (Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency), the first batch of vessels has now been created.

This new technology will build the vessels in hours instead of months, followed by a week’s drying period and then a final 24-hour firing process.

The newly created vessels will be made out of clay, like traditional ones. But they will be more durable than those produced in the traditional way.

The creators of the project are: David Mizandari- technology entrepreneur, researcher, developer, Nika Gujejiani - creative Director at Bank of Georgia, Giorgi Mamasakhlisi - photographer, member of Nakanimamasakhlisi Photo Lab and Olivier van Herpt - industrial Designer.

They aim of this new modern technology is to improve the overall quality of the product by combining traditional wine making methods with up to date methods of vessel production.

In the not-too-distant future, the group intends to bring the 3D printing technology to Georgia and so to start full production of the “Qvevri” in Georgia.
