What impressions do foreigners have of Georgia?
Georgia is a beautiful country with a lot to offer tourists and foreign residents. Interesting towns, mountains, winter sports, seaside destinations, Georgian cuisine and a lot more. However, just like any other country, it has its benefits and disadvantages.

According to foreign tourists and residents variety of food choice in Georgia is good, with a plentiful supply of fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, meat and fish through a myriad of small shops and markets.

There are also restaurants and eating places
with different types of cuisine available from Georgian cuisine, with such foods as Khinkali, Mtsvadi, Khachapuri, Tonis Puri to vegetarian food, halal food, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Italian.

Georgia is especially famous for its wide variety of wines. Georgia has been making wine for about 8000 years. A lot of Georgian families even have their own vineyards. During the autumn people make their own wines by picking and crushing grapes with their feet. There is also Georgian beer and Chacha- not dancing -but a potent mix of brandy and grapes. Plenty of different things to try and taste .You can even go on a wine tasting excursion.

Georgians are known to be one of the most hospitable and friendly people. They love to make foreigners feel at home by hosting them with their delicious cuisine (and of course a glass of wine) or guiding them around the country. They are also very polite and generally speaking have good manners, for example gentlemen open doors for the ladies and give up their seat on the Metro to those in need.

There are many choices of excursions in Georgia. Although Georgia is a relatively small country it can take a few hours by road or train to get to various destinations. The road infrastructure is being continuously improved to reduce travelling time. The Trains although modern and comfortable are not particularly fast and there is room for improvement. However the cost is very reasonable.

There are also the Marshutkas which travel about Georgia. Young foreigners especially like these for getting around as they are cheap and seem to go to all destinations.

However this form of transport is not always reliable due to break down of vehicles or speedy due to having to drop off and pick up passengers.

The cost of living in Georgia is relatively inexpensive, in terms of cost of transport, food and drink, entertainment and utilities. However one item that can be quite costly is renting apartments, especially in the city areas.

So are there any things which foreigners don’t like?

Well possible Georgians driving style, which may seems rather erratic and aggressive at times getting used to crossing the road when there are no crossing signs or traffic lights, can seem like a life or death choice. However once you have stepped into the road, vehicles miraculously will stop for you or go around you.

Queuing is another thing peculiar thing in Georgia. All politeness and good manners seem to be forgotten once there is a queue. It’s every person for themselves in this situation.

Georgians like smoking .Until recently smoking was allowed inside restaurants and other public places and buildings. However this has now all changed due to a change in legislation on the 1st May 2018 when smoking in these areas was banned. No doubt this will create a more healthy environment for everyone within these areas

So overall what is the verdict? Is Georgia a good place to live and visit?

Yes Georgia definitely gets the thumbs up!
