What types of transport can Georgia offer tourists?
Train, subway, bus, mini-bus, taxi and airplane – these are the types of transport that Georgia can offer tourists. The Georgian railway offers an international standard of train between Tbilisi and Baku (Azerbaijan) and Tbilisi and Yerevan (Armenia). As for local trains, there are night, fast and electic passenger trains in almost every direction within Georgia. Most of the trains operate on a daily basis. The price of a train ticket will vary depending on
the type of train used and the destination desired.

The Subway is the fastest and most comfortable type of transport to travel around Tbilisi. It goes to almost every part of the capital. There are two main lines between Akhmeteli and Varketili and the Saburtalo line. Passengers who want to take the Saburtalo line need to change at Station Square and transfer to the second line. Subway passengers need a metromoney card( this is a plastic card that needs to be swiped at the barriers of the Subway to access the system) .You can buy these at any metro station. It costs only 2 GEL and it never expires. Passengers need to transfer money onto the card. You will also be able to use the buses as well with this card. The price for a one way trip is 0.50 GEL. If the multiple trips are started within an hour and half only 0.50 GEL is charged anyway.

Georgian buses take passengers to almost any part of Tbilisi. There are a lot of buses operating in Tbilisi. The buses are gradually being replaced by the new more eco-friendly buses. Main bus stops usually have electronic boards that provide information about destinations and arrival time. Buses stop only at bus stops.

In addition to the larger buses, there are also mini buses going around the capital. They are more comfortable and faster than the buses. The price of a mini bus ticket is a little higher than the subway and other buses – 0.80 GEL. Minis buses usually stop at more points than buses do.

As for taxis, there are a huge variety of taxi cars in the city. Some of them operate under a taxi company, while others are individual private taxi drivers. The price for this type of transportation depends on the destinations. Taxis can be used either within Tbilisi or beyond. The Georgian Journal has previously provided prices for major destinations so as to give you an indication of what to expect. See the article here

Georgia offers visitors international and local flights too. There are airports in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Svaneti, Telavi and Ambrolauri. Apart from local flights, there are international flights to almost every airport in the world. One of the cheapest flight companies is Wizz Air which provides international flights from Kutaisi airport.

As for moving between different regions of Georgia, there are buses, minibuses and private cars that go from different Subway stations (Didube, Samgori and Station Square). There are announcements made in Georgian, English and Russian about destinations. Anyone interested can ask the cashiers at the ticket offices located near the subways for information.
