24 August, 2018
Jenny Brunt is among the most famous models worldwide. She used to be on the covers of different international magazines in the 1990s.
Georgian Journal has obtained an exclusive interview with her.

What does the supermodel know about Georgia, which difficulties do models face during their career and how should women keep ideal shape? –Jenny Brunt tells the Georgian Journal.

Dear Jenny first of all I would like to introduce you my country. Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region
of Eurasia. Georgia is a little country, but there are some famous Georgian designers in the wourld of fashion – Demna Gvasalia (creative director of Balenciaga and head designer of Vetements); David Koma; Georgian-British singer, songwriter and musician – Katie Melua and lot of others, I can’t list all of them know. Georgia in spite of being little country always follow the updates for fashion and cultural industry, so was some years ago when you usually appeared on numerous magazine covers as Allure, International Vogue, Elle Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire. How is being a model?

Thank you for all of the very interesting information on your country. I am a little familiar with Georgia as I have a couple of friends who live there. I hear that Tbilisi is a very fun, vibrant and beautiful city and I would love to visit one day! I do have to say that I love Balenciaga and David Koma. What incredible talent those designers have!

First I feel incredibly lucky that at the age of 49 I can still model with the support of my agents at Iconic Focus who represent only models over the age of 30. Times have changed. When I started in the industry models were considered over the hill and past their prime by the age of 25 (too old). I love seeing women my age and older in magazines and ads. I don’t want to see the clothes that I would like to wear modeled by a 20 year old!

I think that one of the difficulties of this profession is that there is no longevity for models. When I started modeling it really was a career for those lucky enough to make it. I had a career and it lasted for a long time and I am still working! I would advise any young girl who wants to be a model to wait. To go to university. To think about what comes next. Then model for a while but have something to fall back on. And to not start modeling too young. Modeling really isn’t a career now for most. The industry has changed. There is less money to be made and many less clients.

You starred in the film Inferno (1992), directed by Ellen Von Unwerth and appeared alongside Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, Eva Herzigova ect. Could you look back and tell us about shooting process?

I starred in the film Inferno but I never saw it! I heard that it went straight to television! It was an incredible experience of course working with Ellen and all of those girls. I remember we were in Italy. I loved Ru Paul who was also in the movie. I was dressed up in some crazy sexy red devil costume! Maybe for the sake of not embarrassing my parents I am glad that no one saw this movie…or maybe they did. No idea!

Now you are a member of Elizabeth Stewart’s styling team, which works with celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain and so on. What kind of special needs have celebrities?

Yes I help my friend Elizabeth Stewart with her celebrity styling business. Years ago movie stars would dress themselves for events and red carpet. Then some fashion stylists became ‘Red Carpet” stylists and dressed their clients for movie premieres etc. Now its a much larger scale job with the stylist dressing her clients for all aspects of movie press tours, tv show appearances, red carpets and even what to wear at the airport and on a plane…anywhere that the client may be seen and photographed. It’s amazing how much work is involved in all of this!

You are also a certified personal fitness trainer. What would advice women to be in a good shape?

Staying in good shape is a combination of a healthy and sensible diet and exercise. Being smart about not eating too much fried food, sugars and the like. For people that can’t go to the gym I think that walking and getting out and moving is so important. Exercise has been very important in my career not only to keep me fit and healthy but to keep my mind healthy too. I hike with friends, I train at the gym with 2 friends. Its social for me and fun!

Thank you for interview,

- Thank you
