Zaza Saralidze and Malkhaz Machalikashvili resume demonstrations
Zaza Saralidze and Malkhaz Machalikashvili announced that they are going to resume demonstrations today at the former Parliament building in Tbilisi, Georgia. They called on the public, politicians, and those who consider that the investigation of the murders on Khorava Street and the counterterrorist operation in the Pankisi gorge region are inadequate , to join the demonstration.

On the 26th of December 2017, the Georgian security forces raided two villages in the Pankisi gorge, detaining four people and critically injuring another,
Temirlan Machalikashvili, with a gunshot wound to the head. The parents and the co-dwellers of the region deny Temirlan’s relationship with any terrorist groups. They believe that the government has tried to cover up the truth behind the incident in order to avoid responsibility for the murder.

In December 2017, two teenagers were killed on Khorava Street in Tbilisi. During the investigation, Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of the children made claims about evidence being destroying, the details of the case changing and the pressure on the children involved in the incident. He claims there has been a cover up by the prosecutor’s office.

On the 31sr of May, 2018, the Tbilisi City Court gave its judgment on the Khorava Street murder case. Only one person was charged with an attempted killing of Davit Saralidze, the son of Zaza Saralidze. The announcement caused mass demonstrations led by Zaza Saralidze. It was joined by Malkhaz Machalikashvili, members of opposition political parties and a huge number of members of the public.

Zaza Saralidze stated that he and Malkhaz Machalikashvili are" victims of the system". The fathers of the murdered boys appealed to the law enforcers at all levels. They also have previously accused the government of deliberately disrupting their planned visit to Strasbourg to bring the matter up before the EU. They believe that any counter accusations by the government against them, for example that they are being “manipulated by opposing parties” are meant to distract attention away from themselves and in order for them to avoid responsibility in establishing the truth.
