Guram Kashia joins an anti-bullying campaign in Georgia
Georgian football player, the vice-captain of the Georgian national football team Guram Kashia joined the anti-bullying campaign “The strong do not bully”. He met the pupils of the British-Georgian Academy in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The football player was accompanied with the deputy of the minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia and the football players of the Locomotive (Georgian football club).

Guram Kashia’s main messages to schoolchildren against anti-bullying campaign

Guram Kashia remembered his childhood when he
often was bullied. He was sometimes afraid to go to the cafeteria as “cool boys” with criminal mentality were standing there and asking children money. Even though he was a football player, he was not really a popular guy at school and did not have a lot of friends. He, therefore, could not speak out or go against the bullies. He never revealed the fear to anyone but instead used to suffer from stomachache and usually skip the classes.

When he was told at home not to be bullied at school, he never said the truth to his parents. Guram as a child was somehow afraid it would be an insult for his little brother to speak out about his fears. He told the schoolchildren that he regrets he did not reveal his problems to his little brother- Guram believes it would be much easier to handle his fears together with his brother. When he was bullied, he used to cry a lot. He emphasized that it is not a shameful behavior for boys to cry.

He pointed out that in the 90s, people do not know about bullying – children would not see themselves as victims when bullied as it was a common thing at that time. He is happy that children are more engaged in sport nowadays and the criminal mentality is dying out in Georgia.

Guram encouraged children to speak out about the problems and not deal with the bullies by themselves. He told them that if they cannot find anyone to share their fears with, they can contact Guram and ask him advice on Instagram. At the end of the meeting, Guram played football with the children.
