Demna Gvasalias collection inspired by the history of Georgia

This year Demna fascinated the world with his most interesting collection titled as “Family and War”. The designer was inspired by the history of Georgia. He wanted to tell his unknown story to the world. Georgian alphabet and poetry, the flags of the countries (America, Russia, Ukraine), trends and political events related to the past and recent history of Georgia were reflected on the clothes.

“This show was the first time I could introduce my story, my country, and my past to everyone. My childhood was not steeped in flowers or butterflies but war. It was a tough time then. But this time I can speak out not only to my acquaintances but also to the world. I have a big audience listening, observing everything I create. The collection was my way of respecting my origins and the country I come from, though I have not lived there for a long time.” – said Demna Gvasalia about the collection.

Demna Gvasalia posted a photo reflecting barbed wires set up on the territory of Georgia by Russia

Recently, Demna announced about his new collection by posting a photo reflecting Russian aggression on the territory of Georgia. The photo depicts the barbed wires installed on the occupation line by Russian military forces. As Russia continues with creeping encroachment on the territory of Georgia, Demna wanted to draw the attention of the world to the problem. He said that despite being away from the country, everything related to Georgia is important to the designer. He always updates himself on Georgian news and observes current situation in the country.
