Demna Gvasalia is a Georgian fashion designer, the creative director of Balenciaga and head designer of Vetements. Gvasalia’s new sweatshirt from the Vetements' SS19 collection attracted enormous attention throughout the world, especially in Georgia. The sweatshirt is made from thick fleece-back cotton-jersey and printed with a graffiti-style clenched fist and the Georgian inscription saying „კმარა“(Kmara, “Enough”) on the back. This oversized fit has gaping holes at each elbow and Borjghali symbol on the front.
Kmara was a civic youth movement in Georgia
that played a great role in toppling down the government of Eduard Shevardnadze during the November Rose Revolution. The clenched fist represented the logo of the group. While the Borjghali symbol is a Georgian symbol of eternity and the Sun with seven rotating wings
The Vetements SS19 was one of the most interesting collections of the designer. Georgian alphabet and poetry, the flags of the countries (America, Russia, Ukraine), trends and political events related to the past and recent history of Georgia were reflected on the clothes. The collection represents his personality before coming to Europe.
