“Tbilisi, Georgia last night:

“Russian MP Sergey Gavrilov, a member of the Communist Party, was visiting Georgia together with colleagues to participate in the 26th General Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy. Gavrilov addressed MPs in Russian from the chairperson’s tribune and sat in his chair, triggering protests from opposition politicians.

On
Thursday afternoon, the assembly session was canceled and Gavrilov was escorted out of the parliament as protesters gathered outside the parliament building. Gavrilov left Georgia warning that ‘negotiations on humanitarian-economic issues between the two countries may fail’ due to the incident.”

Within a few hours, 10.000 people had gathered in front of the parliament. The demonstration turned violent as demonstrators and riot police clashed. The police were firing rubber bullets and teargas at the demonstrators. It is reported that 240 people were hospitalized and among those were at least 2 people who lost an eye.

This evening there is planned another demonstration, which is expected to be even bigger than last nights’ demonstration,” reads the post attached to her illustrations on Facebook.
