Tbilisi AutoMuseum houses Soviet cars of Lavrentiy Beria, Eduard Shevardnadze, the current Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II and other famous Georgians.
Unlike Soviet times, the cars are now gathered at the museum available for public.
Only a limited number of 20-th-century cars were released for exclusively officials during Soviet times. Besides, fire engines and state inspection machines were also manufactured at that time. Now they are showcased at the museum.
Lavrentiy Beria, First Deputy Chairman
of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union, used to move via GAZ – M1.

The car was later used by the members of Cheka (All-Russian Extraordinary Commission). If the car had appeared near your house, you might have been in trouble.

GAZ -14 “Chaika” used to be in charge of Eduard Shevardnadze when he served as First Secretary of the Georgian Communist Party.

White “Chaika” belonged to Aslan Abashidze, the leader of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic in western Georgia from 1991 to May 5, 2004. After he escaped the country in 2004, the car was sold at an auction by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

GAZ-4 was the first Soviet pickup. There are only 5 models of the automobile preserved in the world. As the cars were usually sent to abroad, most of them weren’t returned to Georgia.

Chaikas were at first created for Soviet officials. From 1977, GAZ-13 “Chaika” was giving service to the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
