Temur Kvitelashvili Has Released His First Live Performance DVD

On March 31, 2011 a press conference was held to present Temur Kvitelashvili’s latest release, a performance recorded live on DVD and the sound track on CD at Tbilisi’s own Phil harmonic. As one of those in attendance, I can say that it was a “big event”. Friends, fans, and family along with eager journalist (Photo, video, etc) gathered to celebrate the event and perhaps, gain some incite to the man behind the music.
As luck would have it, “Georgian

Journal” was able to reserve the inside track and there by, sitting down with “Temur” for an up close and personal interview, to find out more about his most current release, as well as what brought him to this point and what (the fans) can look forward to from the man behind the music in the not too distant future.
Before the official interview, Termur and I talked about the events that led him to his current status as an, ‘internationally known recording artist,” and of course, this conversation yielded fantastic results.
Before delving into his rich personal history, we discussed the musical elements that helped shape the artist he is today. Fore those who don’t know his own personal musical history, it may or may not come as a surprise that, Temur cultivated his unique  and innovative playing stile in the most restrictive of conditions, (the soviet union) as a young boy with a guitar, a dream and various vinyl records.
As Temur put it, it was like living in a vacuum. What little he had was not nearly enough to envision such a grand dream. Yet somehow by listening to artists such as; Jimmy Hendricks, Uriah Heep, deep purple and many other influential, early progressive rock bands, after which, he became interested in more progressive artist such as; George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and many others in this genre. So, many others need not be mentioned, (for those in the know) yet the list goes on. It seems as though Temur has sampled everything that is music since his early days as a young man completely in love with the international language of music yet, against all odds some how,  he emerged as a significant force in modern jazz-rock fusion, not to mention the world of modern music.
After our somewhat casual conversation, I asked Temur how he felt about his live DVD release. He said:
I am very satisfied with the finished product, I wanted a flawless performance, and yet of course it was important to be free creatively, (to make this live experience unique from the original recordings). You see, I wanted to capture the true energy of this music, simply because this is the first release in my discography to be a live performance. All though some small details may not be as was the studio recording, the most important element of the show was to give the audience something that was very unforgettable.
Next, I asked:  what was the most gratifying experience to date in your career, unexpectedly he said:
I can not say that one success in my career was greater than the other, you see, I have lived every dream I ever had. For example, I have preformed with all of the greatest musician that I dreamed of playing with. On top of that, I have had concerts in all of the places which I dreamed of having. For me to say one meant more that the other, would only lessen the value of each individual experience.
After delving into his past and preset, I asked: what can we look forward to from “Temur Kvitelashvili in the future. This is what he said:
In 2012 it is my intention to release another CD. But this one will include both vocal as well as instrumental compositions, not more of one than the other, if you know what I mean. It seems to me that a lot of people are waiting for such a thing, simply because they like to hear me sing.
As we concluded our time together, the many unasked questions came to my mind. I wanted to know about the many out- standing performers he had met or had the opportunity to play with. To my surprise, he had an amazing list to proclaim:
I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to perform next to such great musicians such as;
Allan Holdsworth, Scott Hendeson, Les Paul, Michael Angelo (Batio), andTommy Emmanuel.
This led me to the question: where has your carrier taken you, in terms of world travel. He told me that:
As I said early, (in not so many words) I have fulfilled all of my dreams. As far back as I can remember I wanted to perform at; Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Iridium. (All in New York) As well as, The Baked Potato and La Ve Lee. (Both in L.A.) and I did.
As we concluded our meeting, the closing conversation yielded some interesting little known facts, such as:
Temur Kvitelashvili was the first to play both: Georgian classical and modern melodies on the electric guitar. He also mentioned that he recently had a show in London.
As of now, Temur is in St. Petersburg, where he will be performing as a guest with world famous guitar player “Tom Emanuel”.
Temur has many European concerts coming up in the not too distant future, it would be wise to visit him on the web @ TemureKvitelashvili.com to keep up to date.
