Dr. Natalie Sabanadze – A Georgian young woman, influencing the world affairs!

News like this one is no longer amazing because the Georgian young women and men, scattered around the world are impressively involved in world affairs, making the Georgian genetic intellect, traditional political acumen and sharp talent for influencing current life of humanity are clearly active and functional. It is enough to simply mention Dr. Natalie Sabanadze’s name to quickly perceive what I am talking about.

Here is the story: the other day I met Natalie’s mother Nina who pulled out a

book from her purse, saying that she wanted to present it to Georgian National Library. My interest towards the book was immediately sharpened and asked her to let me have a look at it.

‘Globalization and Nationalism’ (the cases of Georgia and the Basque country) is the title of the book written in English – a hardcover of 218 pages, published by the central European University Press on December of 2009.

I had no chance to read the book, but hurried to run this information in the paper – I think absolutely deservedly. I am expecting Natalie’s former professor of political science Stephen Jones to write substantial critical analysis exclusively for Georgian Journal (at least, he has promised me) nearer to September or October. I can’t wait to see the article, but hopefully, by that time I will also have read this fundamental edition, elucidating on issues like different approaches to contemporary nationalism, construction of globalization hypothesis, old and new nationalism, globalization’s incomplete picture, the Soviet legacy of folklorization of Georgian nationalism, the three phases of Georgia’s post-communism nationalism, national fundamentalism and national apathy.

At age 35, Dr. Natalie Sabanadze has managed to achieve a lot.  She is currently employed as Senior Advisor to High Commissioner on national minorities at OSCE. She is a Georgian-language school graduate in Tbilisi. Natalie went to Tbilisi state university for only a year after which she was enrolled in the program of political science at Swarthmore College of Philadelphia. Natalie continued her academic endeavor at Mount Holyoke College of liberal arts   for women in South Hadley, Massachusetts. This was followed by the London School of Economic for master’s program, and finally she went to Oxford University of London to do her PH.D. She is happily married and has a wonderful daughter of four. That’s her brief story, told as modestly as possible in this short and dry newspaper article.

Believe me Natalie Sabanadze’s story deserves much longer a rendition. The future has it, probably!
