Merab Kvirikashvili’s comeback to rugby after the tragic incident

Matchday 5 in Georgian rugby championship saw the reigning champions Lelo play against Aya in Kutaisi. Aya won the match with the score 25:17.

One of the culminations of the game was Merab Kvirikashvili’s comeback after tragic incident that happened three months ago.

Kvirikashvili is one of the most outstanding figures in Georgian rugby. He has played for the Georgian National Team at 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups and is the main scorer for the team.
July 21, 2016, on the Kutaisi-Samtredia bypass road of western Georgia, a tragic accident happened that took lives of four people. One of them was Kvirikashvili’s wife and mother of their four children.
