Basilashvilli bombed out of the Australian Open
The number one Georgian tennis player, Nikoloz Basilashvili, who is currently ranked 61st in the world, lost five sets match to Kyle Edmund, number 49, and bombed out of the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific – the Australian Open. It took more than 3 hours to determine the winner.

According to data published by Stakers.com, it was the first time Basilashvili managed to successfully enter the Australian Open's third round. The match was held on the court of Melbourne Park sports
complex. Both of them played on an absolutely equal level. In the first round, each of the tennis players took one serve from each other, and it came to a tie-break. Sadly enough for the Basilashvili’s fans, he lost his 13th game 0:7 to Edmund.

In two consecutive sets, the Georgian tennis player performance was nearly perfect. Basilashvili felt confident receiving opponent’s serves and was able to perform two breaks in each of the sets. The big number of double faults and unforced errors slightly spoiled the overall picture. Nevertheless, Nikoloz managed to win these two rounds 6:3 and 6:4 respectively.

It is hard to understand what went wrong in the 4th set. It seemed like Basilashvili clearly decided to rest to concentrate on the decisive 5th set, and, as a result, lost 4th set 0:6 to the British player.

The fifth set could have become historical for Basilashvili. In case of a victory, he could have reached the 1/8 finals of the Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career. However, in the ninth game, with a 4:4 score, Basilashvili had a break-point on Edmund’s serve. But the British managed to withstand it and to take the Basilashvili’s serve later in the 12th game. Kyle Edmund won the set 7: 5 and secured his further participation in the tournament.

After his loss, Nokoloz made some comments on his official Facebook page, he wrote: "Today there was another severe defeat - I cannot explain it." He also wished Edmund success in the next round.

Stakers.com reveals that Basilashvili managed to score 90 points during the third round, and earned 142,000 USD as a prize. No doubt, that after ATP update, Georgian tennis player will move up in the rating.
