England’s rugby team to train with Georgians this week
12 February, 2018
England’s forwards will take on their Georgian counterparts in a two-day training session on Tuesday and Wednesday as Eddie Jones continues his quest to make the scrum the best in the world, reports, official site of the Rugby Football Union, governing English rugby.

Georgia will take part in scrum and lineout sessions at Latymer Upper School and England head coach Jones expects it to be a valuable exercise for his team.
“We want to have
the best scrum in the world and they are the biggest, ugliest, strongest scrum pack in the world, so it’s fantastic,” said Jones.

“His side defeated Wales in their second NatWest 6 Nations match on Saturday and with a ‘rest weekend’ coming up, Jones is taking the opportunity to mix things up with an ‘open training session’ at Twickenham Stadium on Friday also planned,” the article reads.

“We are good friends with the two Georgia coaches Milton Haig and Richard Graham, a Kiwi and an Aussie, and it just suits us perfectly,” added Jones.

“We want to win the NatWest 6 Nations but we are also using this as preparation for the Rugby World Cup so it’s a great opportunity for us to get some quality scrum practice in. It will still be practice but they will do the same number of scrums they do in a game.”

Useful exercise

England captain Dylan Hartley says he expects it to be useful exercise and that his fellow forwards will find the sessions beneficial.

“We are always looking to improve our scrum, it’s been going well for us and I think by mixing it up and training against someone different we will learn something about ourselves,” said the 91-cap England hooker.

He explained: “If I scrum against Jamie George, Harry Williams and Alec Hepburn (fellow front row forwards) they know what we’re trying to do and we know what they are trying to do and then you end up negating what you’re trying to do.

“So it will be a useful training exercise and help us prepare for our next challenge. I’m looking forward to it.”

It is noteworthy that England coach Eddie Jones is strongly impressed by Georgian National Rugby Team. He has been planning to train his team with Georgia since January. He has already said quite funny compliment on Georgian rugby players, when joking that “their babies are born with beard”.

“They (Georgia) have a massive scrum,” Eddie Jones said. “They have the strongest pack in the world. Their babies are born with beards! To improve our training that is one thing we are looking at it, who can we get a higher quality of opposition.”
