Georgia’s U20 rugby team beats Scotland, claims 9th place at the World Rugby U20 Championship
Georgia achieved their best ever finish of ninth overall at the World Rugby U20 Championship. Junior Lelos won three consecutive games for the first time at the Championship. They have significantly improved previous years’ performances. In past years Georgia won only a game in the fourth round (Italy, 2016 and Argentina, 2017) and finished the tenth.

This year they added two more wins to their U20 Championship history and secured ninth place. Georgian rugby team be
at Ireland for the first time at the World Rugby U20 Championship (24-20). After their unbelievable late 24-22 win against Japan, Junior Lelos advanced into the 9th place play-off against Scotland. Scotland lost with Georgia 31-39 and Lelos became worthy winners in Beziers.

It is worth mentioning that Junior Lelos has shown high performances in all five games. Georgia was awarded a bonus point (27: 33) against the semi-finalist South Africa. The finalist France beat Georgia by only 12 points (12-24).

The quality of games was a result of the well-organized preparatory phase. Lelos performed test matches with the under-19 France team and trained for a week for a week at the National Stadium of France in February. In April they had two meetings with the under-20 team in South Africa. Prior to the World Rugby U20 Championship in May, England Counties U20s faced Georgia U20s at Avchala Stadium in Tbilisi. The five matches have contributed to well-earned ninth place.
