Guram Kashia to receive the inaugural #EqualGame award

Guram Kashia is a Georgian football player –presently a centre-back for the San-Francisco San Jose Earthquakes in the Major League Soccer MLS. He has been selected to be the first to receive the UEFA #EqualGame Award. UEFA have decided to award a Georgian national team player with this award for his contribution to diversity, inclusion and accessibility in European football. The award will be represented at the UEFA Champions League group stage draw and gala in Monaco on the 30th of

Whilst playing for Dutch top-division outfit SBV Vitesse last season, Guram Kashia joined other team captains at domestic matches in the Netherlands in wearing a rainbow armband, showing support for the LGBT community. Despite receiving some negative reactions from some of his fans inside and outside Georgia, Guram Kashia maintains his strong support towards the community and diversity.

Guram Kashia started his career in FC Dinamo Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2010, he moved to the Netherlands and signed for Vitesse. In August 2015, Kashia was named Best Player of August in Eredivisie which is the highest echelon of professional football in the Netherlands.

Kashia joined his current team in 2018 on a multi-year contract.
