Nikoloz Basilashvili is confirmed as 31st seed in the ATP rankings

Following the US Open Championships 2018, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) published the new rankings for international tennis players. Georgian Tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili has moved up 6 positions and is now ranked as 31st seed with 1322 points.

It is the highest ranking and position Nikoloz Basilashvili has ever reached in his career. The Georgian tennis player recently played in the eighth US Open but lost to Spain’s Rafael Nadal. Rafael Nadal received 8,760 points in the competition and
is the current No 1 seed according to the ATP rankings.

His match with the Spanish player earned him a lot of praise and attention from the international media. Nikoloz Basilashvili was supported by the former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and the Georgian Basketball star Zaza Pachulia who were both at Flushing Meadows for the match.

The New York Times wrote about Basilashvili - at first it was thought that he would easily“be tossed aside by top-seeded Rafael Nadal”, but Basilashvili’s dynamism and tenacity shocked many at the Ashe Stadium and in Georgia.
