Georgian Sumo wrestlers Tochinoshin and Gagamaru preparing for the next Basho
Sumo wrestlers and fans all over the world are preparing for the last Basho this year that kicks off on the 11th of November and lasts till 25th. Sumo wrestlers hold exemplary bouts in Japan while traveling from one city to another.

At the exemplary competitions there are always lots of fans. Sumo wrestlers had started their trip on the 3rd of October and finish on the 28th.

Tochinoshin travels in Japanese cities

events and is getting ready for the next Basho. Fans wait success from him and for this time, lots are at stakes for Levan Gorgadze.

During exercises Sumo wrestlers need to have great endurance. During one of the exercises wrestlers need to lift each other. Sumo wrestlers weigh around 150 kilograms on average.

Another Georgian wrestler Gagamaru, Teimuraz Jugeli is actively getting ready as well. The last Basho was not successful for him, he ended up with negative balance and was downgraded from the second to the third league.

Tochinoshin maintained Ozeki title


The previous, autumn Basho was very important for Tochinoshin. He would lose title of Ozeki if he finished Basho with negative balance. Fortunately, he maintained the title.

The winner of the autumn Basho became Hakuho. The Mongolian sumo wrestler is the holder of the highest sumo rank of Yokozuna. It is the 14th win for Hakuho at the tournament.

Hakuho was followed by the Japanese Ozeki Goeido with the balance: 12:3. The third place was taken by Ozeki Takayasu, with a record of 11 wins and 4 defeats.

As for Tochinoshin, he achieved 9 wins out of 15 bouts at the tournament. The most intense bout for the Georgian sumo wrestler turned out to be against Komusubi Tamawashi. There were two fights needed in order to reveal the winner. Despite the eyebrow injury, Tochinoshin made it to defeat the Mongolian sumo wrestler.

According to the Autumn Basho, Tochinoishin occupied the 7th place at the tournament with the balance 9:6. He has earned 74 Kenshos (104 118 GE).

In regard to another Georgian sumo wrestler from Juryo Division Teimuraz Jugheli or Gagamaru, he had a negative balance at the tournament: 6:9. He occupied 12th place at the league but his runner-ups earned balances giving him the least chances to remain in the division and secure the Sekitori title.

Gagamaru has to win the third division at the Basho tournament in Fukuoka in order to regain the title.
