First selfies – Awesome photos of five photographers taken in 1920
11 July, 2015
Taking selfies is considered both the invention and the disease of the 21st century. Selfies have become a new trend and an everyday habit of millions of people around the world. Yet, perhaps very few of us know that first selfies have emerged with creation of the camera itself.
These photos, taken in 1920 in New York, depict five photographers posing together for a photograph on the roof of Marceau’s Studio, while Joseph Byron holds one side of the camera
with his right hand and Ben Falk holds the other side with his left hand. So taking selfies actually has a long history. While complaining that it’s difficult to take a selfie with one hand, don’t forget that your ancestors used to hold the camera at least with two hands, since it was quite heavy.
